Christian and Albanese: lots of EOLO-KOMETA in today’s stage!
Giro d’Italia 2021
Stage 7: Notaresco – Termoli (181 km)
And also today, we have a lot of things to tell. You can decide if you want to start from the end and from the breathtaking sprint that took place in Termoli, or if you want to start from the beginning and from the long breakaway that has seen our Mark Christian splendid protagonist for 164 kilometres. Yes, let’s start from the beginning.
Mark went into a breakaway immediately, practically at “km 0”, together with two companions of adventure (Pellaud and Marengo): their action never exceeded a three-minute lead, but the spotlight remained on our rider for a couple of hours. And, as Ivan says, ‘Breaking away counts, always’. So, bravo to Mark: and we’re sure we’ll see him in the spotlight again in the coming days, on the roads of the Giro.
We were talking about Albanese. He tried in the final: he tried to surprise everyone by anticipating the sprint with a beautiful action. Of course, then it didn’t go well: but that action of our “Alba” showed once again that his legs are the right ones and that the next stages could really reserve some wonderful surprises.
By the way: tomorrow, it’s back on the climb with the Giro that meets the Apennines: starting from Foggia and arriving in Guardia Sanframondi, 170 kilometres and two GPMs. A stage to watch, trust me.
Mark Christian: “Being in a breakaway at the Giro is great, it’s an honour and it feels good. Today we managed to escape without too much difficulty, we knew that the group would not let us get to the finish but we found a good collaboration and we were in the breakaway for many kilometres. I’m happy that our team had this visibility, our goal is still to win a stage and we will try until the end”.
