Isaac Cantón: “I am very grateful to all the people of the Foundation”

The Manchego Isaac Canton joins the list of riders who jump to a higher category from the continental project of the Kometa Cycling Team. The cyclist from Argamasilla de Alba (13 June 1996) will ride for the next two seasons in the ranks of Burgos-BH after having competed for the last two seasons in the ranks of the Alberto Contador Foundation.

Cantón, after stopping off for 2017 in the U23 team of the Foundation and winning the Spanish Championship of its category in a meeting held in Soria, was one of eleven riders who made up the Polartec-Kometa with which the Foundation disembarked in the third step of professionalism.

The rider has participated in thirty days of competition this year in which his best position was the ninth place in the Villafranca-Ordiziako Klasika Race, the oldest appointment of a day in the Spanish calendar, although he has fought in the breakaways in different races and has been fundamental in the support of his companions in the mountain, as it happened during the last Vuelta a Burgos.

During the demanding Giro de Sicilia, Cantón was one of the main protagonists of the escapes; on the Italian island he wore the jersey of mountain leader for two days.

“I am very grateful to all the people of the Foundation for everything they have experienced during these three years. It has been a wonderful time in which I not only learned a lot, but also had the opportunity to meet fantastic people. I have been very fortunate to have these colleagues and to have the support of the entire organisation chart of the Foundation. I am especially grateful to Fran Contador for all his support. Now there is a new opportunity, a new challenge, which I face with great enthusiasm,” thanks Isaac Canton.

“Isaac is a charming young man, a very good person, simple and committed. On the one hand we are sorry to lose him, but on the other gives us great satisfaction that it is because it grows and improves in this sport,” said manager Fran Contador. “In the end, the objective of our continental structure is to train runners and allow them to make a leap in their careers, either to the WorldTour or to the ContiPro category. We will continue to work day by day to make it so”.
