New top ten for Stefano Oldani on the final day of the Vuelta a Aragón

44th Cycling Tour of Aragon
Stage 3: Huesca-Zaragoza (127.4 km)

After the previous day’s test at the finish line in Canfranc, I warned that I would try again this Sunday. And so it was. Once again Stefano Oldani was very active in the last kilometres of the final stage of the Vuelta a Aragón 2019. The Italian, absent his compatriot Michele Gazzoli, indisposed in the pre-start of the race, was again the trump card to play for partial success. Polyvalent, equipped with a good top speed, in the sprint of Zaragoza he ended up signing a tenth place, a new top ten for the Kometa Cycling Team this season.

The resolution of the stage, very crazy, with five riders who dynamited the volata in the last meters, a quintet that resulted in a pulse between Androni Giocattoli and the Caja Rural from which Matteo Pelucchi won, prevented a higher return for Oldani. But the young Lombard still has a very brilliant first season in the professional field. The Andalusian Juan Pedro López, 29º, was the first rider of the Kometa in a final general where he won, by virtue of a bonus in the last flying goal of the race, the Catalan Edu Prades (Movistar). López preceded Oldani in the table, 30th.

The third and last fraction of the Aragonese round took place at great speed, with an average final of more than 45.7 km/h. The leader until this Sunday, the Cantabrian Jesús Ezquerra (Burgos) had to retire halfway through the same as a result of a fall that affected several riders, including the Madrid Kometa Diego Pablo Sevilla. An incident without more consequences for the one of San Martín de Valdeiglesias than some small scratches. Also had to get off the bicycle, with discomfort, the manchego Isaac Canton.

Jesús Hernández, director of the Kometa Cycling Team: “The race has left us with contradictory sensations. It started a bit crooked due to the last minute loss of our fast man Michele Gazzoli, who was sick, and this Sunday Diego Pablo Sevilla was involved in the fall where the leader Jesús Ezquerra retired and he also had to leave the race. But Antonio Puppio has shown again his potential and Stefano Oldani has been every day giving presence to the team and continues to postulate for a victory. His puncture on the first day was a pity. Juan Pedro Lopez, in his return, has also shown his quality when the road is steep, being one of the few who managed to follow in the selection made by Movistar in the hardest port of this edition. Aragón, with its lights and shadows, is yet another experience. And it’s past. It is time to look towards the imminent objectives”.

And these arrive in a few days in the French routes of the Tour of l´Ain.
