Biography

On the same day that an iconic stage such as the Merano-Aprica of the 1994 Giro d’Italia was being held, that day of the Stelvio, Mortirolo and Valico Santa Cristina with the battle between Miguel Indurain and Eugeni Berzin for the Maglia Rosa and the triumph of Marco Pantani, Edward Ravasi was coming into the world that same day. It was a design on the path that the future professional cyclist would take on the back of a bicycle. The young Ravasi arrived at cycling almost by chance, without any close relative who practiced the sport, and from the first moment he fell in love with it, even if in his first competitive experience he went to the ground for confusing a lap of recognition with the competition itself. He was seven years old. The reason that he is Edward and not Edoardo is due to linguistic issues, since in the dialect spoken in his area of residence, Bustocco, the name didn’t sound quite right to his father, it was also more complicated to write, and he chose to internationalise it a little with a more English spelling that resembles pronunciation. Ravasi, Eddy to those closest to him, is a great climber and it is in the mountains that he is most comfortable. But above all he is a still very young rider with great potential who, as an u23 rider, was able to finish second in the Tour del Porvenir where the Frenchman David Gaudu won. The rider from Varese has left good examples of his enormous quality in his four World Tour campaigns, especially in the first two, with participations in the Giro d’Italia and in a Vuelta a España in which he finished ninth in La Camperona and he rode in flight in the stage with a final in Pozo Alcón. In the 2018 Vuelta a Burgos, after a great performance in the ascent of the demanding Picón Blanco in the third stage, he suffered a serious fall the following day in which he broke his left leg and had to go into surgery, have a long rest and face a long rehabilitation. In a really atypical 2020 due to the health emergency of the coronavirus, Edward has been able to complete around thirty days of competition with a lot of work deployed in favour of his leaders. Outside his bike, Ravasi is a very quiet boy, a lover of the countryside and nature; it is not in vain that he has grown up on a farm, among animals and various agricultural tasks. And that is why he also has many oenological concerns, he is a great lover of everything that goes into making and ageing wine.
