Stefano Oldani and Márton Dina, in the fight for national titles both in Italy and Hungary

Italy, the national U23 championships they organised in the Tuscan town of Corsanico, welcomed the other great representation of riders from the Kometa Cycling Team who were wearing a bib this weekend. Stefano Oldani was one of the great protagonists of the Italian Championship U23, held on a 153.9-kilometre track plagued by orographic difficulties.

Oldani was part of the avant-garde of the race already in the first break, numerous, up to 37 riders, which was formed in the first descent of Monte Pitoro. Later, he was attentive to the different cuts that were formed in later ascents to Pedona and Monte Magno, even in some of them with the company of the rider of the Kometa Cycling Team sub23 Alessandro Fancellu.

The Lombard, eleventh in the finish line, would be one of the first to generate a reaction after Marco Frigo’s attack 40 kilometres from the end, a movement that ended up being definitive and which earned the Zalf rider gold. “This Sunday’s race was a classic race of this category, crazy, never controlled. I am very grateful to the work of my team-mates, who helped me a lot. Fancellu did a great job. In the end there were many attacks and I couldn’t close them all”, explains Olda.

In Hungary, on the other hand, Márton Dina had several days of intense competition ahead of him. In the time trial he finished fifth, while in the road race he finished 26th, a road race where gold was hung by Szarka Gergely. The one from Budapest also took part in the National Mountain Bike Championships, where he finished fifth and scored UCI points for the Olympic presence.

“It wasn’t my best weekend,” jokes Dina. “The time trial was an exercise of 50 minutes of suffering. I think I need to improve a little very position because I ended up numbing my left leg. On Saturday, on the mountain bike, I felt very well, but I took the descents very carefully and without pressure to avoid problems and falls. This Sunday I tried absolutely everything. I attacked a hundred times, we mounted a chase with Valter Attila and Barnabas Peak to break down a leak and at the time of the fireworks I could not be in the decisive movement and lost the race. I couldn’t do more in a race as flat as this one. The winner raced in a team that started with eleven riders”.
