El equipo crece con un equipo Sub23 en 2014
La Fundación Alberto Contador crecerá en 2014 con la puesta en marcha de un equipo Sub23, que se viene a sumar al equipo Junior y a la Escuela Ciclista de Pinto, con lo que el proyecto de cantera impulsado por Alberto Contador continúa su crecimiento y consolidación.
José Luis de Santos se hará cargo de la dirección de esta nueva escuadra, que seguirá manteniendo la denominación ‘Specialized-Fundación Alberto Contador’ y contará con 15 corredores muy jóvenes, todos de primer y segundo año (19 y 20 años de edad), de los cuales 6 provienen del equipo Junior y el resto son nuevas incorporaciones.
El equipo Junior, por su parte, contará con igual número de efectivos, incluyendo a los ciclistas de primer año que ya estaban la temporada pasada, y estará bajo la dirección técnica de otro gran ex corredor profesional, Félix García Casas, actual responsable de la Selección Nacional de Ciclismo Adaptado, cargo que compatibilizará con esta nueva responsabilidad.
Fran Contador, responsable y mánager de la Fundación, destaca que este nuevo equipo “se enmarca dentro de nuestro proyecto de apoyo al ciclismo y está especialmente dirigido a completar la formación de los jóvenes corredores, a los que se les ofrece un lugar para crecer sin una excesiva presión por los resultados. Lo que queremos es que se adapten a la categoría y darles tiempo para que se hagan ciclistas, porque nuestro objetivo es a largo plazo”. Al mismo tiempo, señala que ha sido fundamental “contar con la fidelidad y el apoyo de todos nuestros patrocinadores, que siguen apostando incondicionalmente por este apasionante proyecto”.
El calendario del equipo se centrará en disputar las mejores pruebas nacionales, pero con una clara vocación internacional, participando en carreras de primer nivel en Francia, Italia y Bélgica, con el objetivo primordial de que los corredores incrementen su experiencia conociendo el ciclismo europeo y compitiendo junto a los mejores de su categoría.
