Enric Mas terminó el sábado la exigente Vuelta al Bidasoa como mejor corredor de primer año y su trabajo fue fundamental también para lograr la general por equipos, culminando una gran actuación a pesar de la juventud de sus corredores. Tras la enriquecedora experiencia vivida en el Tour de Bretagne, los hombres de José Luis de Santos y Rafa Díaz Justo parecen haber dado un salto de calidad y de madurez que se ha percibido en Bidasoa y, probablemente, también se verá en las próximas citas del calendario.

El mallorquín Enric Mas fue uno de los corredores que viajaron a Francia a endurecerse en una carrera marcada no sólo por la crudeza del clima, sino también por el gran nivel de los participantes. Tal vez por eso no está contento del todo con su actuación en la Vuelta al Bidasoa, marcada por una caída el primer día que le apeó de la lucha directa por la general. “Estoy contento con la carrera que he hecho, dejando aparte el tiempo que perdí en la última etapa y la caída del primer día”, comenta. “Es difícil decir qué hubiera pasado sin esa caída, pero desde luego las cosas hubieran sido de otra manera a la hora de disputar la general, que era el objetivo”.

¿Qué significa la clasificación de jóvenes?

Es algo secundario. Yo lo que quería era hacerlo bien en la vuelta. Siempre estás contento cuando ganas algo, pero no es lo mismo que disputar la general.

En el lado positivo, esa última etapa fue también la que permitió vencer en la general por equipos ¿Qué significa para vosotros?

Esa fue la cara de la moneda en la última etapa. El equipo está perfecto. Creo que la experiencia en Francia nos ha cambiado. No sé cómo explicarlo, pero ahora nos entendemos entre nosotros de otra manera. Yo creía que no se podía llevar tan bien un equipo, pero tenemos un ambiente espectacular y también en lo deportivo hemos mejorado mucho.

¿Qué tal estás encontrándote en este primer año en al categoría sub 23, te has adaptado al cambio?

Al principio me costó un poco, lo pasé mal, pero ya me está gustando más, aunque sí que se nota mucho la experiencia de la gente de último año.

¿Y cómo te encuentras tú en este momento de la temporada?

Pues creo que físicamente estoy en uno de los mejores momentos de mi vida deportiva, aunque espero que si sigo cuidándome, en verano puedo estar mejor que ahora.

¿En qué debes mejorar todavía?

En las bajadas y en aprender a sufrir un poco más. Después del Tour de Bretagne ya tengo más confianza, pero todavía no es lo mismo que antes de la caída del año pasado. Es cuestión de ir poco a poco.

¿Cuáles son tus próximos objetivos?

Lo fundamental es hacer una buena temporada, lo más regular posible durante todo el año, pero si ahora vamos a la República Checa intentaré hacerlo bien y claro, me gustaría estar bien en los Campeonatos de España y también en la Vuelta a Palencia.

I thought you could not carry a team as well, but we have a great ambience and also in the sportive plane we have improved a lot.

How are you finding yourself in this first year in the under 23 category , did you adapted to the change?

At first I struggled a bit, was hard, but already I’m enjoying it more, although you notice a lot the experience from riders of last year.

And how do you feel at this time of the season?

Well I think I’m physically in one of the best moments of my sporting life, but I hope that if I keep working, in the summer I can be better than now.

What do you should still improve?

On the descents and learning  to suffer a little more. After the Tour de Bretagne i have more confidence, but still is not the same as before the fall of last year. It’s a matter of going slowly.

What are your next goals?

The key is to do a good season, as regular as possible throughout the year, but if we go now to the Czech Republic I’ll try to do well, and sure, I want to be well in the Championships of Spain and also in the Vuelta a Palencia.
