Fernando Tercero returns to the competition to defend his leadership of the Spanish Cup in Barcelona

38ª Cursa Ciclista del Llobregat
Navàs – Sant Boi del Llobregat (111,3 km)

The Junior Spanish Cup reaches its equator this Sunday with the dispute of its third test, the veteran Cursa Ciclista del Llobregat. The Catalan race, one of the most traditional within the category, established as the third race of the tournament, is disputed over 111.3 kilometers very sinuous during two thirds of its deceptive route.

Although in the last thirty kilometres it presents an essentially favourable profile, except for the final steep slope where the finish line is located in Pau Claris street, it is also a very deceptive profile. With a greater negative than positive accumulated slope, 1,839 metres as opposed to 1,514 metres, the first two thirds of the race concentrate the three big climbs (Vilaredes, which does not score for the mountain Grand Prix; Vacarisses and Ulastrell) and a multitude of steep slopes without so much consideration. Land to do damage.

Fernando Tercero from La Mancha will arrive in Barcelona as leader of the Spanish Cup. Precisely the rider of the Kometa Cycling Team juvenile returns to the competition in the Cursa after remaining practically a month away from the races as a consequence of an accident during the dispute of the Memorial Chele Campos de Cacicedo. Third, who lost several teeth in the incident, up to five, had to go through the operating room for a small fracture of the jaw from which he is already recovered.

“I’m already perfectly well,” says Tercero. “La Cursa del Llobregat is going to be my first race after the fall, so I arrive with a lot of desire for competition. I think I’m going to face this event in good conditions, although it’s possible that I can accuse this lack of competition rhythm. Anyway, we are going to try to defend the leadership. And if that’s not possible, help a team-mate keep him. The cyclist from Valdepeñas, who a few days after undergoing the operation was already rolling, returned to train on the road last May 13.

The Kometa Cycling Team travels to Catalonia with a very strong formation in which, in addition to Third, are Carlos Rodríguez, Javi Serrano, Raúl García, Juan José Rosal, Gerard Bofill, Pedro Beneit and Alejandro Luna. Raúl García, with 99 points, and Carlos Rodriguez, with 60, occupy respectively the second and fourth place in the provisional general standings of a Spanish Cup in which Javier Serrano is ninth.
