Giro del Belvedere: Villa di Villa – Villa di Villa (171 km)

Norwegian victory on a festive Italian Pasquetta Monday. The Norwegian Johannes Staune-Mittet (Jumbo-Visma Development) won alone in the Giro del Belvedere after an attack in the last three kilometres from a leading group of five riders that came out in front of the last ascent of Montaner. The five representatives of the U23 structure of the Contador Foundation arrived in the main group in a race where they rode grouped and protected until the arrival of the final circuit.

The Giro del Belvedere celebrated the 100th anniversary of its first edition with a special neutralised start and the inclusion of a new section with some steep climbs. The race was very self-controlled for a good part of the day, first with a breakaway featuring Kevin McCambridge (Trinity Racing) and Lorenzo Farinati (So-L-Me-Olmo), then with McCambridge’s solo adventure, and then with the latter being caught at the kilometre mark, After McCambridge was caught at kilometre 120, the Dutchman Loe Van Belle (Jumbo-Visma), Belgian Floris Van Tricht (L&R-AGS) and Briton Xavier Finlay Pickering (Trinity Racing) were joined from behind by Italians Federico Iacomoni (Sias-Rime) and Bryan Olivo (Team Friuli).

Ramón Fernández: “Compared to Spain, this is a different kind of cycling. In the end the race was very hard. We were very close all day and in the end we all arrived in the group. Personally, I didn’t feel as good as I did a few days ago at the Memorial Valenciaga, but in the final part I ended up feeling better than I thought”. “I felt good in my legs,” said Luca Bagnara. “I got cut off after a crash when we had ridden about ten kilometres. I had to do a full lap chasing, but I managed to get back to the peloton. During the race my wrist started to hurt, and the pain got worse and worse until the end”.
