A race reborn, for a historic debut: the EOLO-KOMETA kicks off in Valencia

Sunday 24th January.
Clàssica Comunitat Valenciana 1969.
La Nucía-Valencia (150 km).

As expected: it will be a Sunday of strong emotions. It will be the first test of the season. Our “seven” at an appointment with history for a race back on the calendar thanks to the commitment of a former professional rider. A marvelous set of splendid sensations. The Classica Comunitat Valenciana 1969 arrives. The EOLO-KOMETA Cycling Team makes its debut in official competitions.

Alessandro Fancellu, Davide Bais, Edward Ravasi, Francesco Gavazzi, Luca Pacioni, Mattia Frapporti and Samuele Rivi are the seven cyclists who will participate in this reborn event that returns to the international calendar thanks to the commitment of the La Marina Cyclist Club and the former professional Antonio Molina.

What for many years was known as the Luis Puig Trophy, in honor of the former president of the International Cycling Union and the Spanish Cycling Federation, saw its last edition in 2005. Created in 1969, the race has always stood out for an ideal profile for sprinters: here, teams with fast men enforce their law. Many of the great sprinters in history have written their names here. Although his roll of honor also includes that of frenchman Bernard Hinault.

This is the path of the “Renaissance” edition. A more sinuous path at the start, which crosses the famous Coll de Rates of Tárbena and then descends towards the coast and up the Mediterranean coast towards the finish line of the Avenida de l´Albereda in the capital Valencia. A path where there will be a battle between escape hunters and teams interested in sprinting.

“We are looking forward to this race with particular enthusiasm. We know the route well because it crosses the streets where most of our stage has been concentrated in these days, and where most of the professional teams trained. As this is the first race on the calendar, in this very delicate context due to COVID-19, it is certain that all the teams will fight. With great desire. With a lot of motivation. I am sure it will run at a very brisk pace. We look forward to getting a good result. I will have to pay attention to all the movements of the race and, if we arrive in the sprint, to have good legs to give everything in the sprint “, explains Luca Pacioni.
