A week with three competitive fronts for the junior members of the Foundation

The arrival of summer has multiplied the sporting commitments of a Polartec-Kometa junior that, for different reasons, over the next few days is divided into up to three fronts. Indirectly, because it comes under the tutelage of the Spanish Cycling Federation, the first are the Europeans of the category for whom the recent winner of the prestigious Iztulia has been called by the coach Francisco Cerezo. Carlos Rodríguez from Granada will compete both in the time trial, which is held on Friday, and on the Sunday route.

Also this Sunday the Spanish Junior Cup is back, which is celebrating its fifth race, the penultimate of its calendar, in the Madrid town of San Sebastián de los Reyes. The domestic tournament, which has Carlos Rodriguez as the leader of its provisional general, will not be able to count on any of its first three classified by the coincidences and overlaps of the calendar, since the also ‘Polartec-Kometa’ Alex Martín comes to France and Pau Miquel, third, has also been called for the Europeans. The Portuguese Daniel Lopes, Luis Miguel Mendoza, Miguel Patiño, Juan José Rosal and Javier Serrano have been designated for this race.

The most international of all the competitions of the Foundation’s team is the Ain Bugey Valromey Tour. The French race emerges as a challenge of great demand due to the great protagonism of the mountain. In the first two days, which were a priori more favourable, the organisers have decided to include some orographic difficulty in the vicinity of the finish line (the Côte de Chanriond, less than ten days away on the first day; Boissieu, with its summit a few hundred metres from the finish line). In the third stage, midway through the course, the runners will have to face the tremendous Col du Gran Colombier (1501 m). The final day, the queen of this edition, comes to the cross-country skiing centre of Le Plans d´Hotonnes after four passes.

Polartec-Kometa will be the only Spanish squad among the 27 participating teams and will be joined by Alex Martín, the recent winner of the Vuelta al Besaya, Manuel Jesús Carrellán, Manuel Garrido, Iván Oliver and the Briton Harrison Wood, who will once again show off the team’s colours after his participation in the Challenge Montaña Central. In the prologue of the 2017 edition, Marc Brustenga and Carlos García Pierna, current member of the Polartec-Kometa U23 foundation, finished seventh overall.
