The veteran of the U23 structure for the 2022 campaign will be this Italian born in Belluno who, beyond cycling, confesses to be a great music lover. Andrea plays the piano, the guitar and also some drums. “It relaxes me a lot,” he says. Among his favourite bands is the metal band System of a Down.
Pietrobon is looking forward to a season in which he has high hopes after a brilliant start to the year with Team Friuli, with very good performances at the beginning of the season. “The start was good, but since June I have had physical problems and I have not been able to find continuity or freshness”; he regrets. The rider joined Team Friuli in 2020 after two seasons with Zalf Euromobil,, already as U23, and his time in the junior category (2016 and 2017) with Northwave Upper Cervical – Treviso.
The rider from Veneto, a close friend and regular training partner of professional rider Davide Bais, defines himself as a ‘passista’ climber and his love affair with cycling came a little later than other of his teammates. “I was ten years old. I started cycling without a specific reason or a previous family link. I discovered the sport and asked my parents for permission to start, which they allowed me to do”. And since then, improving year by year, until now.
Asked about a sporting dream, Pietrobon says: “As a specific race I would like to be able to race someday the Giro d’Italia. I was able to ride the Giro U23 and it was already impressive, and even a stage in 2020 came almost to my home. The Giro has to be, without a doubt, the most beautiful thing in the world. To compete with so many fans, in your own country…”.
Pietrobon had been rumoured to join the professional EOLO-KOMETA, although he puts this in context: “After those health problems, my starting point was to get back to my best level. That’s why I wanted to start calmly, mentally and motivated, to have a good season. We all have that dream and I hope it can be possible, but there is still a lot of work to do and I can’t wait to start”.
