Arnau Gilabert and Álex Martín take part in the Klassica Olot: “A beautiful race”

67ª Klassica Olot – Trofeu Festes del Tura
Olot-Olot (125 km)

Arnau Gilabert and Álex Martín took part this Saturday in a new edition of the Klassica Olot, an elite and U23 race in which the former rider of the youth team of the Contador Foundation Gerard Bofill won and in which Gilabert finished twenty-second in the absolute classification, ten seconds behind the winner and giving time to a small chasing group. Álex Martín, for his part, finished 68th, 54 seconds behind the winner.

The Klassica Olot was the third qualifying race of the nine planned for the Grans Clàssiques 2021 Circuit of the Catalan Cycling Federation.

“Up to kilometre 65-70, approximately, the profile was mainly downhill, while in the second part we faced a much more ‘uphill’ terrain. It was very windy in the second half of the race. The peloton stretched out a lot and until the end there were many attacks. In general it was quite fast all day”, explains Arnau Gilabert, tenth classified in the U23 category overall.

“I thought it was a beautiful race”, said Gilabert. “I liked it a lot. At first I didn’t really like the association between ‘classic’ and ‘Olot’, but of course it’s a very interesting race, with many narrow, twisty, winding roads… It reminded me of a race I did in France when I was a junior. I really enjoyed this race, it helped me to keep up the pace”.
