Tour de l’Ain (2.1)
Stage 2: Saint-Vulbas – Lagnieu (143 km)

Here is one of those stages where “we would have liked to, but…”. Others went harder (victory for Guillaume Martin), we couldn’t get into the day’s breakaway. So, as we always try to look on the bright side of things, here we can look at Alessandro Fancellu’s day. After a difficult year as his 2021 has been, we are glad to see him up there at the front. Fighting.

Biagio Conte: “It was a very challenging stage, we would have liked to put one of our own in the day’s breakaway but we couldn’t. So we thought about doing some ranking and racing for Fancellu who is riding well, and I have to say he did well: he was with the leaders, he only broke away at the end but when he broke away he held on and came in around 20th position. I liked, a lot, his determination.”
