Bubble, medical tests, health checks and photo shoots for U23 structure

During two days the U23 team of the Contador Foundation have faced a small but intense concentration in the Sercotel Princesa de Eboli of Pinto (Madrid), two days in which have taken place the protocolary medical tests, in charge of the great team of Premiummadrid Global Health in his centre of Pozuelo de Alarcón, the pertinent technical talks and the corresponding photographic session with the new colours of the EOLO-KOMETA Cycling Team.

Circumstances demanded rapid adaptation and optimisation of time and resources. But the previous, fundamental and indispensable step was the generation of the bubble to prevent COVID-19. All those called up, runners and staff, underwent the relevant antigen tests. Not all staff were present at the complex. Due to the current pandemic situation on the European continent and its influence on mobility, the three Italian riders of the U23 team (Alessio Acco, Andrea Montoli, Davide Piganzoli) could not take part in this meeting.

Friday morning was focused on medical tests. Throughout the morning the riders underwent a thorough health check-up at Premiummadrid Global Health, a partner of the Contador Foundation and responsible for the health of the riders of all the teams, from the youth to the ProTeam. The riders underwent a thorough medical check-up and also faced the incremental test to assess the physical condition of the riders. Without health, performance is impossible.

These days have served as a chance for the new riders to get to know the rest of the team better, as well as the first opportunity for the new riders to get to know the rest of the squad better. This was the case of Arnau Gilabert, José Luis Medina or Alejandro Luna, three cyclists who are promoted from the junior team, or Álvaro García, who joins the team this season. “It’s a very nice day”, Gilabert sums up. “You always look forward to this day, in a way it’s like the start of a new season”, adds the Barcelona native. This start is more tangible for Andalusian David Martín, who competed with the Spanish team in the Clàssica Comunitat Valenciana a few days ago. “I will never forget that day in my life”.

“The main objective of this small meeting is to carry out medical tests and health checks, an essential requirement before the start of any season. The current circumstances do not allow us to develop a concentration as we have done on other occasions, so we are especially grateful for the joint effort being made by the Premiummadrid Foundation and the Princesa de Eboli”, explains Félix García Casas, manager of the teams.

“The runners are really looking forward to starting the sporting year. The 2020 was not easy, but they showed great psychological fortitude and were able to demonstrate their quality on the road. They did a great job. We have a very interesting team, very nice and we hope that several of them can make the jump to professionalism on the road,” concludes director Rafa Díaz Justo.
