Davide Piganzoli’s dream realized
One of the most interesting prospects in Italian cycling, a young man who has chosen to continue wearing our jersey, an investment in the future: Davide Piganzoli, a Valtellinese from Morbegno (he was born July 8, 2002), will make his debut among professionals next year with EOLO KOMETA.
And here, we talk about dreams. Those of a child born and raised surrounded by the mountains of his Valtellina and the climbs that have made the history of cycling, in love with the bicycle that from a favorite game has become with each passing day something more and more important. Because Davide, he, is not afraid to dream big: and the first of his dreams was to become a professional cyclist. Now this dream has become a reality, thanks to the strength of everyday work that has led him to achieve very important results in the U23 category (5th at the last Tour de l’Avenir, Italian time trial champion, 10th at the Giro d’Italia), thanks to the will of someone who has always seen himself among the “greats” of cycling wearing this jersey.
“I am delighted,” Davide said, “as only someone who dreamed of this moment since he was a child can be delighted. For me, cycling has always been a beautiful game, which I met by chance: I was 10 years old, and in the square of my village there was an event where children could try some sport. There were little bikes, and a course to ride: I got on the bike, and I didn’t want to get off. I remember immediately telling my mom that I wanted to do that, that I wanted to do it seriously. She made contact with a team close to home, but by then it was summer and we would talk about it later in September: we left for the sea, and that was the longest vacation of my life, because I couldn’t wait to come back and start cycling.”
Results, important results. And to set their eyes on this guy were many, and the offers were certainly not lacking: “I chose to stay here, to continue in the structure where I have been for the last two years and where I made an important leap in quality. Ivan Basso has always told me that I can become a good rider only if I keep my head on my shoulders, if I know how to grow calmly: and EOLO KOMETA is the best place to grow: Ivan told me so, Gavazzi who lives a stone’s throw from me and who always advises me for the best, Fortunato repeated it to me, and other professional riders who ride for different teams told me so too. I made the right choice, and to those who ask me why I did not prefer a big team, I answer that EOLO KOMETA will become a great team.”
Clear ideas, head on my shoulders, simplicity: “When I’m not on the bike I like to listen to music, I love the Pinguini Tattici Nucleari, and go for walks with my friends. Whenever I can, I treat myself to a pizza: as a good Italian, it’s my favorite dish. I’ve always been a Nibali fan, but I’ve admired all the riders I’ve been lucky enough to follow because that’s the beauty of our sport: everyone has a favorite rider, but still you root for everyone. Because the effort is the same, for everyone: and it should be respected, and it should be admired.”
