Diego Pablo Sevilla, leader of the mountains in Vuelta a Burgos

Vuelta a Burgos (2.PRO)
Stage 1: Catedral de Burgos – Mirador del Castillo (157km)

A breakaway of three riders became the protagonist of the opening day of the Vuelta a Burgos. Diego Pablo Sevilla wanted to give presence to EOLO Kometa and filtered into this break with ambition and determination. They opened the way very quickly and reached 9 minutes gap, a big distance in front of the main peloton.

On the climb to Altotero the mountain classification was disputed with a first category climb. Sevilla showed his speed to cross in the lead and scored the points that make him the first mountain leader of the Vuelta a Burgos. A jersey to defend from tomorrow.

The breakaway didn’t get chance by the pace of the peloton, which wanted to reach the first pass through the Mirador del Castillo with the group already compact, and everything was left to fight for the win for on the second and final climb. The best  placed in the finish was Fedeli, 16th in the hard and demanding climb as a preview of the rest of the Vuelta a Burgos.

Diego Pablo Sevilla: The objective was to be in the breakaway and try to win the mountains jersey. It went well, now the goal is to defend it. I’m very happy and we’ll see how the race develops”.
