EOLO-KOMETA shines: Albanese in Sicily, Gavazzi in Turkey

Tour of Sicily
Second stage: Palma di Montechiaro-Caltanissetta (152 km)

One step at a time, one day at a time, one kilometer at a time: to grow, to learn, to get in shape and get closer to the race that is worth a season. A beautiful stage, the one that arrived in Caltanissetta: with a selective and hard final that has rewarded Damiano Caruso in an all-Sicilian arrival ahead of Vincenzo Nibali. And the EOLO-KOMETA raced, and raced as a team around Vincenzo Albanese: protected, led by an excellent Diego Rosa, our Alba closed in sixth place. “And I – he said – am very happy. The team raced really well, I’ve just come down from my training camp in the mountains and I can’t be brilliant yet, but I saw that I’m already very good on the long climbs. I’m very, very happy.”

Stage 4: Izmir – Manisa (147km)

135 kilometres completely flat and 12 kilometres of final climb. On paper, a stage divided into two parts and that Simone Bevilacqua took advantage of to be seen in the breakaway. A quiet ride, generous relays and the resignation of seeing how the main peloton didn’t even leave any margin for them to reach the first ramps of the Manisa climb.

The length and the ramps of the summit that sentenced the general classification of this race put everyone in their place. The EOLO Kometa riders could not be in the leading group, but Francesco Gavazzi completed a great climb to arrive in a second group and stay on the edge of the top-10 overall. From tomorrow, the blue riders will try their chances again in the remaining sprints until Sunday.

Simone Bevilacqua: “For today’s stage we had talked with Jesus and Sean (sport directors) about trying to be in the breakaway. It has not formed until after the first 20km of the stage after several attempts where both Maestri, Rivi and I have tried to be in front. Finally it was me who managed to get into the good group and, although the presence of the wind was quite noticeable, we managed to open a gap. Our adventure came to an end just before the final climb, but I can say that the feeling was good”.
