The team was again in the fight in the final sprint, with Lonardi taking 7th place at the finish in Zagreb. Holding his own with the best, Erik Fetter certified his top-10 overall finish, with a 9th place of great value for him and for the whole EOLO KOMETA team.
The final day of the CRO Race was not without its surprises. First the fight for the bonuses, key for the final overall; there David Martin tried to avoid problems for Fetter. Then a breakaway of five riders who were hard to catch in the streets of Zagreb, while the blues tried to control their position in the peloton. Finally, a sprint in which Lonardi again went for the win and in which the leader and final winner Aular (Caja Rural) himself suffered a hard fall.
However, although Lonardi saw his progression stopped by that fall, he continued his sprint to be 7th and add his fourth top-10 in this CRO Race in the victory of Stewart (Jayco). For his part, Fetter remained in the top-10 of the overall classification in extremis with 9th place, which testifies to his great consistency in this race. Satisfaction and great news for the last races of the year.
“We tried to play our cards at the beginning to try to get some bonus seconds and also not let anyone else to go in the break who was close to me at the general classification”, explains Erik Fetter. “Finally, once again the team worked really well and controlled the situations at the start really well. With Lona we were once again with the best today, so we can be proud of how we raced from start to finish in this CRO Race”.
Sports director Jesús Hernández resumes this CRO Race: “Six stages, always in the top-10 and in the final overall also in the top-10. I think this result is very valuable, we have shown it with an aggresive team. In the sprints, it’s not always the fastest rider who wins, but the placement factor and the luck factor also play a role, which were not with us these days. But we have been there with Lonardi, Fetter has recovered from his health problems and has shown a high level that also gives us hope for the final competitions of the season”.
