50th Trofeo Joan Escolá 91st Campionat de Sabadell
Sabadell-Sabadell (103,5 km) Sabadell-Sabadell (120 km)
Double top fifteen and protagonism in the development of the race for the representation of the EOLO-KOMETA Cycling Team in the two races that opened this weekend the Circuit Grans Clàssiques of the Catalan Cycling Federation. Joan Martí Bennassar and Arnau Gilabert took part both in the 50th Trofeu Joan Escolá, on Saturday, and in the 91st Campionat de Sabadell, on Sunday.
Gilabert, who is making his debut in the category, completed his debut with a thirteenth place in the Joan Escolá and a twelfth place in Sunday’s race. “I felt very well, I didn’t have any complications in terms of mileage. Both were races with little gradient, with short passes that allowed the sprinters to hold on because the second part of the race was practically all downhill. Today I tried to play my cards right in Moia, a kilometre and a half from a steep climb where there were a lot of people on the slopes, in an area that few people knew, and there I managed to catch a few metres. But the bunch caught me. Both yesterday and today the fundamental thing at the end of the sprint was the placement. Yesterday Jonny tried it and today we were going to try it myself, but the speed was really high”.
Joan Martí Bennassar was more protagonist on Saturday: “I felt very good, despite being the first race, I didn’t feel lacking in rhythm. It’s as if I had two or three races in my legs. I’m very happy, in this sense, it means that the work I’m doing at home is going well”, explained the Mallorcan. The Spaniard, right on the big pass of the day, also tried a breakaway after the pass and managed to reach the breakaway, although in the last kilometre they ended up neutralising them.
