Great performance for Polartec-Kometa in the Grand Prix Ciclista Primavera de Ontur

The Polartec-Kometa sub-23 did´nt  miss his meet with the prominence in the Grand Prix Ciclista Primavera de Ontur, a race  in which the team came with the highest aspirations and in which he remained in the fight for the triumph until its end. In the 65 edition of this classic, victory for the ‘lizarte’ Antonio Soto and a remarkable fourth position for our portuguese Daniel Viegas. He  signed an outstanding performance for our team.

The race was very fast and it had a earlier break of sixteen riders on the front. Between them, two members of the team: Giulano Kamberaj and Viegas. The breakaway took a gap than more than two minutes. But in the climb to Alto de la Muela, first KOM of the day, the main group accelerated and it has broken into three smallo groups. The impulse given by the Russians of the Lokosphinx was very important for that movement. A high speed that has made that advantage of the head drain go down to the minute.

This reduction has led to the beginning of some attacks at the head of the race. Movements that have reduced their number of members. A first selection in which Kamberaj and Viegas have remained has left the group in sixteen units. On the climb to La Muela, the second and last KOM, Soto has attacked and only four other riders have been able to follow him. Among them, our Viegas.

A new acceleration of Soto on a slope about twenty kilometers to the end did another selection. The murcian rider has left with two other rivals, opening a gap of about twenty seconds on Viegas and another runner. In the sprint for the fourth place, the Portuguese has been the fastest. Giulano Kamberaj, in the first important group, has signed the eighth final place.
“Ontur is a race at the beginning of the season that, besides being a classic and having a great tradition, tends to be quite hard. Among the 24 teams there are practically all those who compete in the Spanish Cup. We arrived with the firm intention to win and our main men were Giulano Kamberaj and José Antonio García. We had planned to go out and play with them thinking about the time factor, “says Rafa Díaz Justo, referring to the wind forecasts that are always evident in this event. “We have been in the leaks and we could have presence with good race situations. But Soto is in an impressive moment.

The next challenge of the Polartec-Kometa arrives next Sunday with the Subida a Gorla, one of the most prestigious events of the calendar and that, in addition, is scoring for the Lehendakari Cycling Tournament from the Basque Country. A race in which, back in 2001, Alberto Contador won.
