98º Coppa San Geo
Ponte San Marco – San Felice del Benaco (153,1 km)

The competitive debut of the U23 team of the Contador Foundation in Italian territory was completed with the participation, this Saturday, in a Coppa San Geo in which the Italian Samuele Zambelli won after beating the British Matthew Kingston in a tight sprint. Gabriele Raccagni and Andrea Montoli, who arrived in the main bunch (48th and 49th), were the best classified riders for the EOLO-KOMETA CyclingTeam.

The structure directed by Dario Andriotto would lose David Domínguez because of a fall in a descent, although the Catalan is well. “I had two crashes, the second one was quite ugly and took place in a roundabout when I was going very fast”, he says.

Andrea Montoli: “It was the first race on Italian territory, there were many strong teams and in the end it was a very nervous ‘corsa’ because in the first part of the race there was a strong wind that made it dangerous to ride very far back. There was a lot of fighting for the front. The team was good, all the guys did a good job during the race and the pity was David’s crash, but fortunately it wasn’t serious. Personally I expected to be a bit better, but it’s the first home race and the season is just starting”.

Antonio González: “I loved the race itself. It’s always special to race against people and in races outside your country. It has gone very fast. It’s a very different style of racing, with a lot of nerves, and especially today because it’s the first race on the Italian calendar. I’m really enjoying the change of category and I’m looking forward to continuing the season, enjoying unique experiences like this”.
