Juan Pedro López opens with a great victory in the Guerrita Trophy

Juan Pedro López, one of the climbers with most projection of the Spanish U23 peloton, achieved today in Alcantarilla (Murcia) one of most important victories of his career by winning the Guerrita Trophy, third round of the Spanish Cup, winning the sprint over Cristian Mota, with whom he arrived at the finish line.

Lopez, in his third year as U23, showed the good moment of form with which he has started a season that should be key in his aspirations. The today’s triumph, on the other hand, recalls in some way that of his ex-teamamte Álvaro Cuadros in 2016, already professional at Caja Rural Team.

The rider from Lebrija (Sevilla), forged his triumph in the hardest part of the route, in Sierra Espuña, where the peloton was reduced to a group of 23 riders among which were four cyclists from Polartec-Kometa (along with Juampe, José Antonio García, Jorge Pastor and Alejandro Regueiro). Lopez attacked at first and went solo on Collado Bermejo, about 40 km from the finish, which earned him the victory in the Mountain classification, although it was still too early to resolve.

After proving to be the strongest in the climbs, there was a regrouping until a new attack by Lopez, about 20 km from the finish, left him in the lead, but this time only with the company of Cristian Mota, with whom he followed already until the end, beating him in the sprint.
