Vuelta a San Juan (2.PRO)
Tappa 7: San Juan – San Juan (112,7 km)

A sprint. Wanted, sought, built throughout the race to make sense of this Vuelta a San Juan. And Giovanni Lonardi tried to make his mark by seizing seventh place overall behind winner Welsford, who replicated his success in stage 6. The team worked to protect its sprinter, and in the end Lonardi was able to play his chances in a finale in which an attack by Evenepoel and Simmons threatened to ruin the sprinters’ plans. The general classification smiled on Miguel Angel Lopez, who was 30″ ahead of Italian Filippo Ganna.

Biagio Conte: “Finally our Lonardi was able to sprint, the team worked all day for him because we knew he was the only one who could aim for a good result in a fast stage like this. He repaid us with a good sprint, hopefully this placing will give him some morale ahead of the race in Antalya.”

Giovanni Lonardi: “It was the first day I felt good, we did well to stay in front in the finale and I jumped into the sprint. I’m glad that on the last day we managed to do something good, and now we look to the next races with more confidence.”
