The Italian Marco Della Vedova (1972) joins the Contador Foundation project to reinforce the organisation of the sports management area of the U23 team, especially in view of some races of the Italian U23 calendar.
Della Vedova, a professional rider between 1996 and 2022, a life cycle in which he competed in teams such as Brescialat, Lampre or Mercatone Uno, has been one of the sports directors of the UC Bustese Olonia junior team since 2004, as well as working for RCS in the preparation and development of the cycling events they organise.
“Dario Andriotto and I are old friends, we have known each other for many years and we share many experiences. We were teammates during our second year as U19, back in 1990, and then for another three years as U23s. We have shared experiences in organisations and we are also linked through the Bustese Olonia. The Foundation and the Bustese have been collaborating for a few years now, several of the boys have made the jump to U23 with EOLO-KOMETA, the team has become very well known in Italy”, says the rider from Mergozzo.
“I will work closely with Dario, supporting him on the calendar, organising the races, the more bureaucratic processes and covering some races. But I also keep working with the Bustese Olonia and its calendar. It’s a good way, following the structure that all the top-level squads are implementing, to strengthen the work. It is very interesting, a very good opportunity for the boys, this combination of calendar between Spain and Italy, because it combines the stage races so unknown here with the one-day races”, adds Della Vedova.
Ivan Basso, sport manager of the EOLO-KOMETA Cycling Team: “I am very happy, a person with a great experience in the youth category is involved in our project, and that assumes a jump to the U23 category. For us it is a great step forward in our way of continuing exporting and developing in Italy the model that we already have in Spain, with which we look for to make grow the young talents and that they can remain with us”.
The collaboration between the Bustese Olonia and the Contador Foundation began in 2021 and in these two seasons up to five riders of the Varesan entity have passed through the U23 formation directed by Rafa Díaz Justo. Edoardo Alleva and Manuel Oioli, last season; and the brothers Tommaso and Gabriele Bessega for this 2023. Previously, in the continental structure, embryo of the current EOLO-KOMETA Cycling Team, competed Antonio Puppio and Samuele Rubino, both.
