Alessandro Fancellu

Age 22
Height (cm) 172
Weight (kg) 62

One of the great promises of Italian cycling, he is called to redemption after a 2021 ruined by a bad accident in training and some physical problems. His palmarès describes him as one of the most promising youngsters: great victory at the 2019 Vuelta a León, where he triumphed in the queen stage with uphill finish at Puerto de Ancares, and especially the splendid bronze medal won at the Juniores World Championships in Innsbruck, behind Remco Evenepoel. Cycling was not the first great sport in Fancellu’s life: for eight years he played as a forward in the Oratorio Solbiate team. At the age of twelve he decided to stop and his parents forced him to choose a sport to continue to practice some physical activity: at that point he started to pedal. And it is on the hairpin bends of the Mortirolo, for a challenge with his father and an old bicycle, that his first cycling dreams begin to take shape also thanks to his mother’s origins in the nearby Aprica. He loves spaghetti with pesto sauce, he became passionate about cycling by watching films of Marco Pantani’s exploits, and his role models are his parents. His hobby is agriculture (he has a diploma in agriculture) and he loves cars and engines: until a few years ago he also had a motocross bike that he had to sell because it was incompatible with his life as a cyclist.
