Fran Muñoz

Francisco Muñoz is a Catalan cyclist with Asturian origins whose love affair with cycling began during a summer holiday in Galicia and reached its first zenith, unprecedented within the under-23 structure of the Contador Foundation, with his victory in the overall of the 2022 Spanish Cup Elite Under-23. Muñoz’s family moved from Oviedo, where Fran himself was born on 24 June 2001, to Catalonia and it has been here where he has been growing as a cyclist in addition to other sporting experiences such as volleyball. One summer, spending his holidays in Galicia, he went out on his bike with his older brother and had a great time. On his return home to Mataró, he went to the velodrome to see how he could continue. And from then until now, although his parents didn’t like him doing road road cycling at first because of all the traffic and road safety issues. He started competing on his own, then he was with Paco Gálvez. As a first year junior for Huesca La Magia, and then to Club Ciclista Mollet to face his second year in the category. In the club of Mollet del Vallés he lived his turning point, he won the Catalan Cup 2019 and it was the first year in which he began to train every day, and beautiful results began to come. He made the leap to the under-23 category with Team Compak, Team MP Group.  From this team he jumped to the under-23 structure of the Contador Foundation for 2022. Muñoz is a very consistent rider with no specific tastes in terms of routes, who likes hard races, with complicated routes. The days that are of elimination, of selection. One of the particularities are his studies: if he was already studying Industrial Engineering at the Polytechnic University of Barcelona, he has also started studying Industrial Electronics and Automatic Engineering at the Tecnocampus of the Universitat Pompeu Fabra. After trying out as a stagiaire in 2022 and 2023 with great results in the Italian classics, even being in the breakaway in the Coppa Bernochi, he has received the call of professionalism with Polti Kometa in 2024.
