Francesco Gavazzi

Pro team

Here is the captain, the veteran of the team, who has decided to do another year, his 18th as a professional, with our jersey. Originally from Morbegno, he is from Valtellina DOC but despite his proximity to historic climbs like Mortirolo and Stelvio…he is a sprinter. His biggest win is the 18th stage at the 2011 Vuelta Espagna, he has 2 children – Achille and Filippo – and is an avid Inter fan. His favorite dish, of course, is Sciatt (typical from Valtellina) and his passion for cycling stems from his father who was a cyclist, passed on his passion and is definitely the person who always believed in him from his first pedal strokes. In 2021 he brought his experience to serve the team, and came close to winning two stages of the Giro d’Italia. To his credit, no less than seventeen seasons lived between continental and WorldTour formations with which he was able to compete in many of the most prestigious events on the world cycling scene, from three-week stage races to monuments and other one-week races or classics and semi-classics. Gavazzi won a stage in the Vuelta, but also in the Itzulia/Round of the Basque Country and several stages of the Volta a Portugal. A fast rider who grew up in the mountains, “I don’t have the physique of a climber-he jokes-and I’m not Alberto Contador or Ivan Basso, but I can defend myself. This is the area where I live, so many climbs near my home. The Mortirolo, which is perhaps one of the most fascinating climbs in cycling, is a stone’s throw from my home and sometimes I train there.”
