A very hard and demanding opening of the Volta a Girona 2023, a Trofeu Agullana wet and wet where the weather made even harder a complicated circuit with a very important climb that caused a great selection. Sergio Calvo achieved his second “second place” with the colours of the Contador Foundation in a race where the Russian Daniil Kazakov (Maderas Fores – Hiper Europa) won, who went on the attack and arrived alone with a minimal advantage over Calvo.
The U19 structure of the Contador Foundation was crowned as the best team of the day, supported by the fifth place of Miguel Domínguez and the fourteenth of the Hungarian Balazs Pollner. The grey note came with the signature of Manu Sanroma, who was involved in a fall, without physical consequences, which prevented him from continuing in the race.
“The highlight of the day was the rain. We had a good storm during the whole race. On the last lap Sergio and I were in a group of ten riders, with Kazakov already in the lead. On the climb, Sergey started and took off. I stayed in a second group, but I let them go down to finish fifth and stay close to Antonio Ramírez and Adria Pericas”, says Miguel Domínguez.
