Sprint in Villatuerta and good sensations for Lucas Guillermo and Antonio González

XLIII Circuito San Veremundo
Villatuerta-Villatuerta (70,5 km)

The 2021 campaign for the junior structure of the Contador Foundation had its prelude this Sunday on the road with the presence of Lucas Guillermo from La Rioja and Antonio González from Soria in the Circuito San Veremundo de Villatuerta. In the Navarre race, the sprint resolution was won by Rubén Sánchez (UC San Sebastián de los Reyes). Guillermo finished in the top-20 (20th).

A very fast race from the initial flag that was not selected until the ascent to the Alto de Mañeru. There, several attacks took place, where both Guillermo and González were present. The climbs where it initially seemed that a breakaway could consolidate. Finally, a small group of about thirty riders took the lead.

“I’m satisfied with the race, but not with the sprint. I entered the final straight in the top ten or fifteen and finished further back,” explains Lucas Guillermo. “Antonio and I rode together all the time and very far in front of the bunch”. “The climb was very fast and we managed to break the group together with Rubén Sánchez and other riders. In the end, for one reason or another, there was a neutralisation. I’m happy with the feeling. I would have liked it to have been harder to break up the race more and not have so many riders in the sprint”, said Antonio González, 32nd at the finish.
