Successful presentation of the Fundación Alberto Contador in Italy

The Fundación Alberto Contador presented on Tuesday at the iconic Pirellone of Milano, the skyscraper that houses the headquarters of the Consiglio Regionale della Lombardia, its social and sports project, presented by three of its main sponsors, Polartec, Kometa and Valtellina. Eric Yung, VP International of Polartec, and Giacomo Pedranzini, CEO of Kometa Italia, highlighted their commitment and identification with the values promoted by the foundation, as well as their satisfaction with the work carried out, during an event in which the tourist authorities of Lombardy highlighted their commitment to competitive cycling and cycling tourism as first-rate tourist tools.

An intense and very popular event, where Alberto Contador, president of the foundation that bears his name, was able to present to the Transalpine society some of the social initiatives that the institution has been working on, through the promotion of cycling, such as the ‘Bicis para la Vida’ (Bikes for Life) project or the awareness campaigns against ictus.

“Italy is a very special country for me, with great significance not only from a sporting point of view, but also from a personal point of view,” says Alberto Contador. “For these reasons I am really happy to have the opportunity to present the projects we are working on at the Foundation in Milan, the opportunity to introduce all Italian fans to this exciting adventure in which cycling represents a lifestyle and at the same time is an instrument to help, educate and train not only great champions, but also human beings with values”.

In a more sporty perspective, Ivan Basso, manager of the formation, presented the twelve riders who make up the continental squad, with the figure of the Transalpine Matteo Moschetti at the helm and the presence of the Sevillian Juan Pedro López, recently promoted to the first team since the U23 formation. The Italian former rider highlighted the educational and developmental aspect of a very young squad with a different philosophy, far from pure’resultadism’.

The event, presented by the Italian journalist Alessandro Brambilla, was attended by Lara Magoni, Tourism Advisor, Territorial Marketing and Fashion of the Lombardy Region; Franco Angelini, Delegate Council of the Province of Sondrio; and Alessandro Meinardi, director of the Stelvio National Park, one of the landscape jewels of the Valtellina. Likewise, Mauro Vegni, director of the Giro d’Italia, had his turn to speak. He highlighted the intense relationship between the pink race  and Lombardy and its Valtellina mountains, although he declined to comment on the presence of some of its giants on the 2019 route. “You’ll see, you’ll see”, he said enigmatically.

A squad that, after the event, travelled by road to Bormio to start a stage of preparation for some upcoming sporting challenges, with the Giro d’Italia (from 7th to 16th June) and the Giro del Valle d’Aosta (from 11th to 15th July) at the front, which will begin this Sunday with the presence of the City of Lugano Grand Prix (Switzerland). The U23 team’s riders Daniele Cantoni and Jorge Pastor will also face this first training camp, which will run until June 6 and will continue with a second’training camp’ between June and July.
