The U23 structure of the Fundación Contador concludes its signing section for next season with the great incorporation of Pablo García, ‘Garchu’, from Madrid. Coming from Caja Rural-Alea and formed in the Club Ciclista Galapagar, the rider from Majadahonda (February 16, 2001) is one of the most outstanding riders of the amateur scene. Winner this season of the final overall and two stages of the reborn Vuelta Ciclista a Ávila, in his list of winners are also the Trofeo San José or two stages of the Vuelta a Navarra and the Vuelta a Madrid of the 2022 campaign.
A vast experience that will be fundamental in a project that incorporates up to eight youth riders to the category. García, after four seasons with the Navarre team, faces his entry into the elite with a very rejuvenated squad. Traditionally, the U23 team has not had many elite riders in its ranks, the Italian Andrea Pietrobon was the last member two seasons ago and other recent exponents have been Mario Vilches, Jorge Pastor or Giuliano Kamberaj, but the experience takes on a special value for the next course.
“Pablo García is a cyclist of enormous quality who we are not going to discover now,” says Rafa Díaz Justo. “He has a great track record and is an exceptional veteran. Many riders with a career like his have moved up to the professional ranks. We believe that, with his desire, his motivation and his maturity, he will bring a lot to the project and, to a certain extent, he will be a reference. He has shown a lot of things and he will show a lot more. He’s going to give us a lot of quality during the season.
“I’m very happy to be part of the Foundation team next season. From the outside, from a rival’s point of view, I have always liked the way they have been working. And of course being the home team, from Madrid, is something that seduces a little more. Rafa Díaz explained to me the project they were working on for next season, with a lot of young players, and I also liked that confidence,” explains Garchu.
