” This is how you learn to race in front.”

News · 8 June, 2022

This edition of the Adriatica Ionica Race also bids us farewell: a year ago we had celebrated with Fortunato, this year Bardiani smiles with Filippo Zana conquering the general classification. Today’s last stage saw a lot of EOLO-KOMETA on the attack, starring with as many as three riders in the day’s breakaway that made it to the finish line in Ascoli Piceno: Fancellu, Martin and Sevilla put on a great show and fought to the last to try and hit the win. Especially Fancellu, who with 2 km to go tried the solo action knowing that there were faster riders than him in the small group.

And indeed in the end Scaroni, wearing the jersey of the Italian national team, came out on top. For our Diego Sevilla and Alessandro Fancellu, excellent 6th and 7th places.

Stefano Zanatta: “Races like today’s give our riders, who are still young, a chance to gain experience and learn how to race in these situations. I must say that they did well, at the end Alex Martin had less leg because he had spent so much to close on the attacks, while Fancellu who was the one who was better tried to surprise everyone but it didn’t go well for him. I’m glad to see him up front, and to see our young people playing it out. Now, it’s off to Slovenia.”
