Veneto Classic, and the end of a wonderful 2021
Venezia – Bassano del Grappa (206,5 km)
A beautiful race, this Veneto Classic: the right way to close this season, before pulling the plug a bit and starting to think about the year to come. Battistella won, protagonist of one of those feats that make this sport beautiful: he won at home, he won because he never stopped believing in his action even when the pursuers seemed to have caught up with him. The day of the EOLO-KOMETA was colored by the blue of Vincenzo Albanese: he tried, he was in front, he clenched his teeth and in the end he arrived before the group.
This 2021 ends here. And it is perhaps too early to draw up a balance sheet, to say what went well and what could have gone better: there will be time for everything.
What remains for us, and no one will take them away, are those emotions that still give us the shivers.
The emotions of the first year in this category, the fears that accompanied the first weeks, the desire to be great together with the greatest.
The emotions of the debut, and that look around wondering if everything was really true or if it was just a dream.
The emotions of being in those races that before we could only watch on TV: the Strade Bianche, the Tirreno-Adriatico…
The emotions of that day in which we are said to us: “We will go to the Giro d’Italia”.
The emotions of Albanese’s blue jersey, of Gavazzi’s near victory, of the kilometers in flight, of the people talking about EOLO-KOMETA.
Lorenzo Fortunato, Monte Zoncolan.
Lorenzo Fortunato, Monte Grappa.
The emotions of Erik Fetter first and Vincenzo Albanese second, both with arms raised.
The emotions of a year that has been very long, tiring, intense, hard. But beautiful.
Thank you, 2021: it has been an honor. And we can’t wait to start pedaling again.
