IV Antonio Suarez Memorial
Corpa-Corpa (60 km)
The Madrid town of Corpa hosted this Sunday the fourth edition of the Antonio Suarez Memorial, a race for different categories that in the case of youth cycling hosted the fourth round of the Madrid Cycling Cup and proposed a route of 60 kilometers not easy by the routes of the east of Madrid. A very hot Sunday morning in which Javi Serrano (Kometa Cycling Team) from Madrid won alone.
Serrano and Alejandro Luna del Cerro were the only two riders of the Kometa Cycling Team to take part in this race in which the formation of a breakaway formed by Neo Martínez, Gabriel Rodas and Iván Majuelo, from Salchi; Félix Vázquez (Ciclos Ébora); and Serrano himself was the capital.
The rider of the youth team of the Alberto Contador Foundation left from the pack to reach the head of the race. The quintet, a quartet after the last pass through Nuevo Baztán after Vázquez lost contact, rode with a minute and a half of margin and entered a phase of multiple attacks in which the main objective was to take down Serrano.
“The truth is that it’s been very hot for us in this race,” explained Serrano. “I wanted to find sensations for the races to come and in that sense the objective has been fulfilled. I felt very good. I attacked in the first pass, around the 30th kilometre and left alone. I ended up catching the leak that had formed three riders of the Salchi and another one of the Ebora Cycle. I’ve been attacked many times since then, but I’ve managed to put up with all the start-ups and let them all go in the last pass”.
The first year junior Alejandro Luna del Cerro, for his part, continued his progression with another great race in which he always rolled very close to Pablo Garcia, leader of the Madrid Cup. “Pablo and I were going to fight to be first in the chasing group, but there was nobody signalling at a crossroads and we were wrong. In the end they all passed us. In spite of this, I personally felt very good”.
