Stage 1: Riccione-Riccione, 194.6 km
Hard stage, complicated stage: it was expected, and so it was. The first day of the “Coppi e Bartali” was resolved in this way: with the big teams in front to do battle and the men of EOLO-KOMETA to fight. An initial escape, the winning spurt of Schmid, ours to try to play their own possibilities. “Today – says the DS Stefano Zanatta – we went strong: a four men breakaway went away and we tried to control it, then on a descent there was the fall of Rivi who managed to come back. The big teams got in front and we tried to resist. Ropero, Christian and Fetter were the last to fall, but unfortunately they were unable to stay in contact with the first group.
